Exciting news from Verizon Wireless today, as it announced that they will soon offer Apple's iPhone 4 on their largely popular 3G network. After months of anticipation and speculation, Verizon Wireless officials told several media sources today, that it would begin selling the iPhone on the network in early February. Now that Apple has made the iPhone available to Verizon customers, AT&T has lost the exclusivity it had been holding over other mobile phone providers.

AT&T and Verizon

The Verizon iPhone will not be exactly like the AT&T iPhone, as some modifications were necessary in order for the device to work on Verizon's CDMA network. The phone will be the same on the outside, but there will be some significant changes on the inside. Mainly, the changes in the hardware's configuration, an adapted external antenna, and room included for the 3G Mobile Hotspot application.

Switching Carriers?

Although many people jump at the chance to drop AT&T's blotchy phone coverage, Verizon's cell coverage may also suffer, despite changes made to allow for the expected heavy volume of iPhone users. We have all seen the commercials; two large, rival companies claiming the other is not as good. Despite the competition, both companies have skills that the other does not possess. Verizon seems to have superior signal, and AT&T has simultaneous use of data and voice.
